SUMMARY:CEO Works Luncheon| The Science of ADHD & Unlocking Your Attention
DESCRIPTION:Dive into the world of ADHD and attention to learn practical\nstrategies and AI tools for managing attention more effectively.\n\n\nIn this short workshop\, Jesse Abrams will use the science of ADHD and attention to illuminate how today’s overwhelming world frays our ability to focus\, regardless of whether we have ADHD—and how we can optimize our performance by better understanding our brains. \nEntrepreneurs significantly over-index with ADHD. The same neurobiological traits that fuel innovation—risk-taking\, fast pattern recognition\, hyperfocus\, and creative problem-solving—can be superpowers in the early stages of a venture. But as a company grows\, these traits can also become liabilities: masking can lead to burnout\, charisma can turn into imposter syndrome\, and difficulties with planning\, follow-through\, or team management can inhibit effective scaling. \nThis session breaks down the neuroscience in an accessible way\, exploring how ADHD and attention strain impact our ability to lead\, create\, and sustain momentum. You’ll learn practical strategies for managing attention more effectively and\, through a series of exercises\, walk away with a specific\, customized plan for supporting your brain’s unique capacities and strengths. We’ll also dig into the unique and constantly evolving AI tools we can use to help manage our brains. \nAbout Jesse Abrams \nJesse Abrams\, ACC\, CACP Integrated ADHD and Life Performance Coaching \nwww.jesseabramscoaching.com \nI began my career in Silicon Valley startups and anti-slavery advocacy\, driven by a passion for innovation and impact. But everything changed after a brain injury upended my life. In the process of recovery\, I was forced to confront how physical changes to the brain can fundamentally alter how we think\, feel\, and experience the world. As I dove into the science of the brain\, I engaged more seriously with the ADHD and learning disabilities I had lived with since childhood. I discovered how profoundly life can change when you design your life to work with your brain\, not against it. I fell in love with this work because I get to help other people find the same freedom. With certifications in both ADHD and general life performance coaching\, I support my clients in creating systems and strategies that align with their brains—so they can live with more ease\, achieve their goals\, and find fulfillment in the process. \n \nThank you to our partners for supporting Santa Cruz Works!

SUMMARY:Deep Dive: Resilience of the Monterey Bay Region
DESCRIPTION:Join us as Dr. Joseph Fiksel explores how communities & businesses adapt to climate change while building resilience & sustainability.\n\n\n\nThe Monterey Bay Stanford Club invites you to attend our 2025 Fall Speaker event at the CSUMB campus in Marina. Our speaker\, Dr. Joseph Fiksel\, will share how municipalities and commercial enterprises are adapting to climate change and other challenges while pursuing long-term environmental and social commitments. Recent crises in California and elsewhere are a stark reminder of our vulnerability to catastrophic forces. How can Monterey Bay communities ensure resilience to sudden shocks\, while striving to protect our natural resources\, enhance our quality of life\, and ensure long-term sustainability? We must begin by recognizing important synergies and trade-offs between sustainability and resilience; e.g.\, renewable energy adoption can reduce the risk of widespread power outages. \nJoseph Fiksel is a proud alumnus of Stanford’s Management Science and Engineering department. During his career as an author\, researcher\, and international consultant\, he has long advocated a “systems approach” that integrates strategic sustainability efforts\, such as decarbonization\, with preparation for sudden disruptions\, including wildfires\, floods\, pandemics\, infrastructure failures\, and supply chain delays. Prior to joining Ohio State\, Joseph was Vice President for Life Cycle Management at Battelle\, and later he served as Special Assistant for Sustainability at the U.S. EPA. \nAlumni\, friends\, family members\, and prospective members are welcome! \n \nDate/Time: Saturday\, October 25\, 2025\, 3 to 5 PM \nLocation: Business and Information Technology Building\, Room 104 on the CSUMB campus \n(California State University Monterey Bay) 3052 Divarty St\, Marina\, CA 93933. \nAgenda: \n2:45 pm Doors open \n3:00 pm Presentation and Q&A discussion \nLight refreshments and networking will follow until 5:00 PM
